From its beginnings in Naples, Italy, the art of wine making has been passed on in succession through the generations of Preate family members. It was the vision of Joseph C. Preate that led to the establishment of vineyards in Lackawanna County in the spring of 1981.

Preate Winery, the area's first commercial winery, was founded in 1985 as a natural outgrowth of his endeavor. Joseph's family now continues his dream by producing the highest quality wines using 100% Pennsylvania grown grapes from the Preate vineyards and other well recognized vineyards in Pennsylvania.
